Department of Multi-trophic Interactions (MTI)
Centre for Terrestrial Ecology (CTE)
Netherlands Institute of Ecology (NIOO-KNAW)

The main topic of the department is interactions between plants, above- and belowground herbivores, pathogens and their natural enemies. We investigate mechanisms involved in above-belowground interactions, the evolution of plant defences against herbivores and pathogens, biodiversity and ecosystem functioning from a multi-trophic perspective, as well as invasiveness of species.  For many of these aspects, a link is made between physiological, genomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic parameters.
