Section Molecular Ecology and Biocontrol
Laboratory of Phytopathology
Department of Plant Sciences
Wageningen University (WUR)

The overall aim of the Laboratory of Phytopathology is to gain fundamental knowledge about plant pathogenic fungi and oomycetes, the interaction with their host plants and the interaction with bacteria as they occur in the rhizosphere. This knowledge can contribute to prevention, management or control of diseases in important agricultural crops. The research program of the Molecular Ecology group focuses on fundamental aspects of the interactions between beneficial bacteria (Pseudomonas), plant pathogenic fungi/oomycetes and the host plant. The program consists of three research topics: 1) understanding the biochemical and molecular basis of natural disease-suppressive soils; 2) discovery of new mechanisms, genes and metabolites in microbial interactions; and 3) pathogen and plant responses to beneficial bacteria and traits.
